Case Study Session: Two Businesses Merging – Marketing & IT

  • 30 May 2024

Join us for an interactive case study that explores the challenges and opportunities of merging two organizations—one in Marketing (18 employees) and one in IT (12 employees). With retirements and leadership changes creating additional complexity, participants will step into the role of Efficient Designer, Process Consultant, and Data Synthesizer to co-create solutions for this real-world inspired scenario.

The Challenge:
The newly combined company must merge overlapping operations in finance, HR, sales, invoicing, and customer service. A key tension lies in the fact that IT staff, once working directly with marketing clients and even providing some marketing services, now face role overlap with Marketing staff who view this as their domain. The task is to design an efficient, inclusive process that acknowledges the unique skill sets of both groups while fostering collaboration and clarity.

What We’ll Explore Together:

  • What additional information do we need to make informed decisions?

  • Which strategies and processes best support alignment across teams?

  • How can we help both groups discover their strengths, communicate effectively, and plan together?

This case study invites participants to think critically, practice OD consulting competencies, and explore approaches to building unity in a newly merged organization.
