Adapting Leadership to Meet the Best and Worst of Times

  • 7 May 2012

WHEN: Thursday, May 17, 6:00-8:30

WHERE: BCIT Downtown Campus, Room 481, 555 Seymour Street

PRESENTER: Sabina Nawaz, Consultant and Executive Coach

Change is inevitable and ambiguity is a given. As organizational development consultants (internal and external), we understand this reality. What also seems true is that the amount and degree of change and uncertainty has been on a significant upward trajectory. How do we effectively ride the waves of uncertainty? Based on a dozen years of partnering with executives on seemingly intractable problems, Sabina Nawaz will offer ideas and tools for working with leaders with no easy answers to their business challenges.

This interactive session will combine real life examples with the work of Harvard’s Ronald Heifetz and Martin Linsky’s concepts of adaptive leadership. Participants will have an opportunity to explore various aspects of adaptive challenges – which are usually immune to traditional problem solving approaches and require a different mindset. Participants will have the opportunity to test drive tools essential those leading in the midst of adaptive situations.

By the end of this session participants will leave with:

  • A way to distinguish when their clients are working on adaptive challenges
  • A tool to consider the broadest possible landscape in order to better assess appropriate interventions
