Session Overview:

Please join Dr. Gervase Bushe in a provocative conversation about an idea
he is developing with Dr. Robert Marshak of American University; that there
is an emerging “post-modern” form of Organization Development.

They argue that academic descriptions of Organization Development (OD) found
in textbooks and most journal articles have not kept pace with innovations
in OD practice. A growing body of OD practice has, explicitly or implicitly,
rejected the modernist assumptions underlying traditional OD in favor of post-modern
assumptions about discourse, narrative and the importance of changing conversations
for changing human systems. They identify some of these new practices; consider
how they differ from traditional OD, and how they adhere to traditional OD
values and principles. Dr. Bushe will offer a definition for a new post-modern
form of OD and criteria for post-modern OD.

Session Guide: Gervase Bushe, Ph.D. G

Gervase Bushe, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Management and Organization
Studies in the Faculty of Business at Simon Fraser University. Gervase is an
internationally recognized Organization Development scholar. Currently in his
consulting practice he is expanding his leadership development company (www.clearlearning.ca)
and engaged in a multi-year cultural change process utilizing Appreciative
Inquiry throughout the Vancouver School District.
