Come join the BCODN’s very own Teresa Comey, Principal of Influencing Leadership and current BCODN President, for an evening of exploring OD interventions and teams.
Often an OD consultant is contacted because there is a problem with a team; the team isn’t working well, there are interpersonal conflicts, the team is not productive, or morale may be low. We may be invited to do ‘team building.’ We may be asked to sort out the team issues, or deal with the problem team member. In considering all of this; what is the most appropriate OD intervention for a team? Where do we start?
Organizational Development is a planned effort with the goal to increase organizational effectiveness and health. Through planned interventions, at different levels of an organization, OD consultants seek to create change and solve problems toward improving productivity and employee engagement.
During this interactive session we will:
Explore OD interventions at multiple levels in the organization including the individual, team, large group and organizational
Explore multiple OD approaches and how they can support the team
Answer the question: is there a “best” place to start?
Teresa Comey, Principle of Influencing Leadership and current BCODN president instructs academic organizational behaviour programs through BCIT, and Team Establishment and Team Work Skills in Project Management at the UBC Sauder School of Business. With the new year, often comes resolutions which can be pesky little things that we have every intention of doing, but need so much energy to initiate. Resolutions usually require one or both of the following:
- A change in behaviour – doing something that you’ve done in the same way for a long time, in a new or more effective way.
- A change in perspective – learning how to see existing issues/opportunities/behaviours in a new light.
With our first professional development event of 2012, we wanted to give tools and insights to help you with both aspects of resolutions!
Mark your calendars for the next BCODN Community Of Practice session Monday November 28

Whether consulting from the inside or outside of an organization, developing a business case for our expertise is often perilous, not to mention painful. And, who knew we had to sell?!?
This session provides a framework for holding business acquisition discussions with prospective clients that dramatically improve the odds of landing the engagement. It is also meant to be an eye-opener for new practitioners who need to confront the challenge of winning an engagement sooner rather than later.
Come join us on Thursday, October 27 for an evening of learning and discovery of OD core tools.
You will have the opportunity to select 3 presentations from the 5 that will be offered on topics such as Change, Leadership Development, Process Consultation, Conflict Management, and Mentoring.
How long does it take working as a consultant before we realize that a potential engagement can go off the rails in more ways than we could ever imagine?
Whether consulting from inside or outside of an organization, developing a business case for our expertise is often perilous, not to mention painful. And, who knew we had to sell?!?
Join us for an informal evening of fun and potluck as we swap OD stories from this past year. Celebrate the holidays, bring something to share, and enjoy an evening of good cheer with fellow BCODN members.
A Fall 2011 BCO Project is ready for your Autumn energy!
The Building Community Organization Committee is seeking consultants and mentor who are interested in working with an organization devoted to environmental sustainability and social justice. The organization is familiar with our work having been a past client and was so pleased they have engaged with us again. Additionally, the organization has recently engaged with someone to help create a mind map for the initiative discussed below and connected with a project management professional. This is an organization that is good at working on itself.
We’re in the process of developing our October 27, 2011 event, which this year will feature a selection of mini workshops. To make the most of our very capable membership, we invite you to participate as a presenter!
“I always enjoy BCODN events so it was good to connect, renew relationships and make new ones. As a long time member I am surprised at how few other long time members attended the social.”
“Loved the event . . . I really like this location for a mix-n-mingle. It feels upscale, but not pretentious . . . I liked the informality of the event, and got to talk with almost everyone there”
